Love sunshine, fun and a little sand between your toes? Then Cabo San Lucas is your next vacation spot! Regulars call this beautiful slice of Heaven in Mexico, "Cabo". It is located at the very tip of the Baja California Peninsula and is bordered by the Sea of Cortez. The website All About Cabo boasts that Cabo offers visitors 360 days of sunshine, almost year-round tanning!

While Cabo is now a major tourist destination in Mexico, it still has the ambiance of its small fishing village origin. It is easy to get around Cabo San Lucas, whether by foot or inexpensive land or water taxi. Day or night you'll find something fun going on, good places to eat and lively spots to down a cerveza!

Hit the Beaches in Cabo San Lucas

Most people plan on catching some rays when they head to Mexico, so the beach scene is important! Cabo's white sand beaches are clean and inviting, and always filled with activity. As sure as the sun will be shining, you can bet on finding people riding jet skis, competing in a Mexican hat dance, participating in beer drinking contests or snaking through groups of sun worshippers in a conga line!

Don't worry about dragging a beach chair along. Instead, order a bucket of Dos Equis or a few drinks with umbrellas in them at one of the beach bars, which will reserve you an umbrella-covered chair, free of charge!

While you bask in the Mexican sunshine, you'll be approached often by beach vendors selling their wares. You can get great deals on jewelry, clothing and blankets, but as tempting as the price for that silver bracelet may sound, don't buy right away. Let the vendor come back a few times or buy from the second or third vendor who approaches you. If you wait until the end of the day, you might score an item at half the cost of its morning price!

Warning: Don't forget the sunscreen....the Mexican rays are intense even in the shade!

Downtown Cabo San Lucas

Be sure to wear comfortable flip flops and take the time to walk around downtown Cabo San Lucas, where this once quaint fishing village entwines with the newer trendy tourist spots. If your destination is further than your feet can handle, taxis are cheap or you can rent mopeds and bikes.

Downtown, you'll find small local businesses, clothing boutiques, taco stands and pharmacies where you can purchase meds at serious discounts. You'll find several hot spots in close proximity to one another, among them Cabo Wabo, El Squid Roe, The Giggling Marlin, and Hard Rock Cafe.

Cabo Wabo

The Cabo Wabo Cantina website gives Sammy Hagar's history with Cabo Wabo. According to Hagar, he intended his cantina to be a tequila bar in which he could perform during his visits to his favorite Mexican fishing village. The name for his cantina was born when he watched a local stumbling down the cobblestone road, probably after a night of too much tequila. According to Hagar's memoir on the website, he thought, "That guy is doing the Cabo Wobble!"

You'll find colorful ambiance inside the restaurant or out on the patio, and booming music and party fun inside the dance club. Started as Hagar's dream twenty years ago, Cabo Wabo was voted recently as one of the Top 10 party spots in the world!

Fresh Salsa is Made at Your Table!

El Squid Roe

El Squid Roe is an icon of Cabo San Lucas and a popular night spot. During the day, stop in for tacos or chips and fresh-made salsa. You'll find it sedate during the day and fine for the family, but once the sun sets, It turns into three levels of booze-fueled frenzy.

If you like to party, El Squid Roe is a MUST! Not for the timid, nightly you'll find waiters roaming the jam-packed bar with tequila filled spray tanks looking for an open mouth, patrons dancing on the tables, and voyeurs watching the open-air dance floor from the third level overhead.

According to the Los Cabos Guide website, El Squid Roe has a party CEO, Pablo Recasens, who stands on a designated platform every evening where he sings, raps, and coaxes the party animals to do outrageous things and shake their groove-thing all night long!

The Giggling Marlin

Located on the Marina Boulevard, you'll find the Giggling Marlin, which was built in the eighties by Gary Wagner. He explains on the Giggling Marlin website that Cabo has the "best fishing in the entire world." He claims that there are thousand-pound marlin swimming within a "rocks-throw" of The Arch which is three minutes from his establishment.

While tame during the day, at night the place comes a beehive of craziness that thrives on group involvement. You might even find a patron or two willing to be hung upside down in the bar's designated spot for a shot of tequila, as everyone cheers them on!

Senor Frogs

Okay, maybe Senor Frogs isn't totally unique to Cabo, but Mexico wouldn't be Mexico without a Senor Frogs, right? This chain restaurant/bar is located on Marina Boulevard near the Plaza Gali Mall, a spot in Cabo that catches most visitors coming and going. It's a great place to rest your feet, enjoy a cold one and people-watch. But don't expect it to be boring, because while you are kicking back, you just might be recruited to join in a Fiesta dance, or catch a performance by local street dancers.
